Provider Behavior Change Toolkit for Family Planning: improving health provider behavior through design-led research and facilitation

Improving health provider behavior is crucial to achieving health and development goals. Providers, including those who work in family planning, operate in complex systems, and factors such as norms, health systems, client interactions, and individuals’ own beliefs and attitudes influence provider behavior. Designing impactful, scalable, and sustainable initiatives requires a contextual understanding of both providers and the people who interact with them. The Provider Behavior Change Toolkit for Family Planning builds on the Provider Behavior Ecosystem to inspire practical solutions in these areas.

As the team's designer, I was responsible for designing the toolkit deliverables, creating data visualizations, and developing a cohesive visual identity.

Intructions Booklet

The instructions booklet is developed to guide users through the toolkit implementation process.

Diagnostic Tools

Diagnostic tools help users identify and prioritize provider-related barriers and support facilitators to the delivery of quality health services in multiple contexts.

The Client Visual Scenarios tool presents images and scenarios that prompt discussion about the client’s recent Family Planning (FP) experience, their perceptions of these services and behaviors, and their motivations for seeking FP.

Synthesis Tools

The daily and global synthesis tools allow users to summarize information from the diagnostic process and prioritize challenges to be addressed by programmatic activities.

The Daily Synthesis sheets support daily analysis of diagnostic findings and learnings.

Programmatic Tools

Lastly, programmatic tools allow users to design and implement effective provider-related initiatives.

The Action Plan helps the team to plan for implementing the final solutions from the brainstorming process.
